Whether you’re into grilled cheese or a mozzarella and pesto panini, who doesn’t love a good toasted sandwich? But would you eat one if it was filled with, say, instant noodles or Thai curry? Barry Cui, the owner of a new sandwich joint “Frankie’s Toasties” in the United Kingdom, is including some of these strange new flavors to his otherwise classic menu.
While customers are used to “toasties” filled with cheese, ham, pickles, even beans and Marmite, they’ll have to feel a little adventurous to try some other additions to the menu of 32 filling choices. Among them is “The Salford Super Noodle Buttie,” with “buttie” referring to a buttered sandwich, filled with chicken-flavored instant noodles. If that doesn’t suit you, you could also try some other exotic flavors like Katsu or Thai curry, apple and custard, and the even more unusual pairing of hot dog and Nutella.
Chui he came up with the “random” idea to open the shop after cooking up a toastie when he had nothing in the fridge to cure his munchies. In his mind, despite the unorthodox filling choices his sandwich spot is sure to be a hit since “everyone loves a toastie.” You can browse the array of flavor on the shop’s Instagram, and those of you daring eaters planning a trip to the United Kingdom can hit up the spot after it opens on October 22nd.
