After lots of planning, Amy Carey and John Thornton were all set to say “I do” at his mother’s 100-year-old farmhouse in North Carolina. But Hurricane Florence had other ideas. Flooding from the storm made the Wayne County home inaccessible, so the couple had to scramble at the last minute to make their wedding happen.
Thankfully, the staff of the TownePlace Suites by Marriott hotel in Goldsboro where the bride and groom, and their wedding guests were staying, stepped up to help, offering their breakfast room as a makeshift wedding chapel. Hotel employees filled in as wedding coordinators, caterers, DJs and decorators to pull it off.
And in the end, the couple got hitched thanks to the hotel staff’s enthusiasm to work past problems Hurricane Florence created. The bride and groom were happy with the wedding and that’s what really matters. “We’re really blessed and we’re really happy,” Amy says.
