As we previously told you, “Sex and The City” star Cynthia Nixon was “exploring” a run for governor of New York. Now Nixon has announced that she will in fact run for governor against Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary this September.
Nixon’s website says she’s keeping donations to a minimum for her run. She won’t accept any corporate contributions and will limit them from individuals or organizations to $65,100. In her video announcement, Nixon says she wants to focus on the people and not about the power.
"We want our government to work again. On health care, ending massive incarceration, fixing our broken subway," says Nixon. "We are sick of politicians who care more about headlines and power than they do about us." Nixon has previously expressed her interests in improving healthcare and improving income inequality. You can check out her campaign video to the right.
- Cuomo has yet to comment on her candidacy, but has previously spoken out about name recognition in the race. "Normally name recognition is relevant when it has some connection to the endeavor," offered Cuomo. "If it was just about name recognition, then I'm hoping that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and Billy Joel don't get into the race."
