Eau Claire Police Report Record Number of OWI Arrests in 2019

Thanks to our good friends at WQOW, this story is up on there website.

In 2019 the Eau Claire police department has recorded a record number OWI arrests. So far this year (2019) there have been 182.

Eau Claire Police Officer Bridget Coit tells WQOW that people need to be aware of their alcohol consumption and to also keep an eye out for others who may be a risk behind the wheel. And to also remind us that if there is drinking taking place, please make a plan for a sober ride home.

Believe me, a $5 UBER ride is WAY worth more than what the possible outcome to drinking and driving can be. Wisconsin has a pretty stiff penalty policy when it comes to OWI incidents.

For the first offense, it's up to a $300 fine PLUS a $450 OWI surcharge. License revocation for up to 9 months and a mandatory sober program for a year (which by the way YOU will have to pay for.)

Eau Claire police go on to say that there will be extra patrols this New Year's Holiday season.

Makes that $5 UBER ride look pretty good right about now, doesn't it?
