Tattoos and Teenagers. What's the Right Age?

Recently talked to some friends of mine who all have teenagers and the subject of tattoos came up. Two of the parents told me they found out AFTER the fact, that their teenagers had gotten tattoos. One was 18 years old and the other was 15. That may not seem like a huge age gap, but when it comes to something like this, meaning tattoos, I think that's a major gap.

Another couple told me that their teenager approached them and asked for permission to get some ink. I thought that was pretty cool, that the relationship between parent and child was so strong that the teen felt completely comfortable having that discussion.

So, I ask the parents of the Chippewa Valley - Would you let YOUR teenager get a tattoo? And if so, how old is old enough?
