It's been a little more than 4 years since the Eau Claire Kmart closed it's doors for good.
However, it looks like someone else may be moving in to the location at 2424 East Clairemont Avenue.
I have a very prominent memory of that Kmart. It must have been sometime in 1984 when I literally begged my Mom to buy me the soundtrack album to the movie 'Footloose.' That's the one with Kevin Bacon. The original. The main reason i wanted the soundtrack was for the song 'Metal Health' from Quiet Riot. It was in the scene where Ren gets pulled over by the police for his music too loud. Anyway, after I had gotten the album it was discovered that 'Metal Health' is NOT on the soundtrack.. Bummer.
Back in April the Iowa based grocery store chain Hy-Vee signed a purchase agreement for the 10 acre lot and 120,000 square foot store.
The Eau Claire Kmart originally opened in 1963.
